Recruitment Consultant in Spain
In autumn 2021, the path of Laura Kauppinen led her to Spain through an HR internship that was part of her university studies. After the internship, she returned to Finland to complete her degree in 2022, but the dream of moving abroad had been growing for a long time.
“Spain felt like a natural choice – the Spanish language, the sun and warmth, and the international atmosphere of Fuengirola completely won me over. In spring 2023, I came across an open Recruitment Consultant position at StaffPoint. I sent in my application, and soon it will already be three years working as a recruiter!”
Working as a Recruitment Consultant in the staffing industry
Currently, I work as a Recruitment Consultant and find the role both meaningful and versatile. In my position, I manage recruitment assignments for several clients in the retail sector and am part of the Spain Service Centre team.
Recruitment had interested Laura already during her studies, and the open role felt like the perfect fit. At the beginning, she expected the job to be people-oriented and goal-driven, and hoped the company would offer a good balance of freedom and responsibility. In her view, these expectations have been well met.
“My role has developed quickly, and my areas of responsibility have expanded across different aspects of recruitment. As I’ve learned more, I’ve also been entrusted with more demanding assignments and greater client responsibility.”
StaffPoint was already familiar to Laura as an employer, and she had heard plenty of positive feedback about the company. What motivates her most is the opportunity to support both candidates and clients in different situations. The possibility to work remotely has been a major advantage, making it easier to balance work and other aspects of life, especially here in Spain.
Professional growth as a specialist
Along the way, Laura has trained new interns in the use of recruitment systems and has been involved in planning and coordinating onboarding practices across different regions and client accounts. Although she had no prior experience in recruitment, over the past three years her expertise in HR has grown significantly. Her interpersonal and communication skills have developed, and she has also become familiar with using AI as part of her work.
“Support has been available throughout the journey from both Finnish and Spanish supervisors and colleagues. The work constantly teaches something new, and it feels like I learn something additional every week. In the beginning, the main challenges were the large amount of new information and multiple systems, but over time routines formed, and effective time management has made everyday work smoother.”
In particular, recruiting cashier trainers and coordinating weekly onboarding sessions have strengthened her organisational skills and supported her growth as an expert.
“Regular training sessions, AI coaching, and 1-to-1 discussions support continuous learning and career development.”
In closing, Laura notes that StaffPoint offers strong opportunities to grow in the role of a recruiter, and that individual skills and career aspirations are genuinely taken into account.
Thank you, Laura, for sharing your career story!
