Client:

OnniBus has operated in Finland since 2011 and is now part of the Koiviston Auto Group. The company focuses on long-distance domestic travel and currently operates around 10,000 routes per month, making OnniBus the clear market leader in long-distance bus transportation. In early 2024, the company launched its Commercial Development Program, which helped OnniBus achieve a new passenger record in the summer of 2024. Moving into the next phase of the program, the company’s primary focus is on enhancing the overall customer experience.

Assignment:

As part of the next phase of the Development Program, OnniBus decided to further strengthen its network planning operations and established a new leadership role, Head of Network Planning. To support this key recruitment, company management launched an open hiring process and decided to partner with an external recruitment professional.

We began the recruitment process by requesting proposals from several recruitment consultants. We chose StaffPoint Executive, as we had previously had positive experiences working with Pasi Honkalahti and Jukka Walliander. Our collaboration with StaffPoint and Jukka throughout the process was smooth, and the recruitment progressed efficiently. We received positive feedback from candidates about the interview atmosphere and the overall candidate experience. Although the position was challenging, we found several highly qualified candidates and ultimately selected a person who was an excellent fit for the role.

Joona Hurmerinta, CEO, OnniBus

How we succeeded:

We started the assignment with a thorough briefing meeting, where the complexity of the role became clear. OnniBus’s extensive route network meant that professionals with comparable experience in route planning were rare in Finland, eliminating the possibility of attracting talent directly from competitors.

For this reason, we used a hybrid recruitment model that combined direct search and advertised search. Collaboration with OnniBus’s CEO throughout the process was smooth and straightforward, and it was a pleasure to convey this company culture to the candidates as well.

The initial contact came through a private LinkedIn message. The message was fairly generic but provided enough information about the role to spark my interest. I wouldn’t have noticed the job posting myself, but I felt the position aligned well with my expertise, even though the specific field of transport was new to me. My desire to learn something new and further develop my professional skills made me interested in the role. The timing was also ideal, as I had spent several years in my previous position and was looking for new challenges. The entire process was completed in about three weeks. Everything progressed quickly and smoothly, even though it required fast reactions and finding suitable interview times within an already full schedule. Overall, I was left with a very positive impression, communication with Jukka was flexible, fast, and highly professional.
