The war in Ukraine has deeply affected society and sparked an immense desire to help. The Confederation of Finnish Industries (EK), together with the StaffPoint Group, has launched the Työstä turvaa (Security Through Work) project to provide employment opportunities for people who have fled the war in Ukraine. The initiative brings together companies to support Ukrainians in their temporary settlement and integration into Finnish working life.
StaffPoint invited EK to take on a coordinating role to ensure that companies’ willingness to help could be channelled effectively.
“We want to do our part to help Ukrainians find employment when the time is right. Work can play an important role in recovery. We are offering our recruitment expertise and platform to the project pro bono for four months. Our aim is to find jobs for as many Ukrainians as possible through the companies participating in the project,” says Anu Ahokas, CEO of the StaffPoint Group.
A wide range of companies from different industries are offering low-threshold job opportunities and paying employees wages in line with collective agreements.
“The goal is to offer work to Ukrainians who have arrived in Finland and wish to support their everyday lives and integration through employment, until the situation becomes clearer. By coordinating these efforts, we can channel the business community’s desire to help for the common good,” explains Jyri Häkämies, Director General of EK.
A large number of Finnish companies have joined the initiative. The initial goal is to employ 200–400 Ukrainians and other asylum seekers with valid work permits. Companies can participate by offering job opportunities through the project, which is open to all businesses.
Among the first to join were:
StaffPoint, HOK-Elanto, Lapland Hotels, Kruunu Herkku, L&T, Compass Group, Manna Group, Fazer, Pihla Group, Posti, Konepajakoulu, Scandic, Bestseller, Valmet, Attendo, Elisa, Kesko, and Skanska.
