Kuva Space supports international talent and strengthens its employer brand through Workplace Finnish training
Kuva Space wants its international employees to find their place not only at work, but in Finland too. With Spring House’s Finnish for the Workplace training, employees could learn Finnish as part of their working day. At the same time, the training brought colleagues together, made everyday life in Finland a little easier and strengthened Kuva Space’s employer brand.
An interesting job brings talent to Finland – a good life helps them stay
Kuva Space is a Finnish space technology company that builds hyperspectral imaging satellites as well as data and AI solutions. From a team of fewer than ten people, the company has grown into an international workplace of around 60 employees.
In a highly specialised field, the right talent is not always found close to home. Kuva Space also recruits internationally – and that raises an important question: how can you help someone who moves to Finland find their place not only at work, but in the society around them?
While English is the working language at Kuva Space, life outside the workplace often happens in Finnish. Language skills make everyday life much easier, open the door to conversations and help feel part of society.
Kuva Space’s Head of People and Culture, Sarah Elers, points out that moving to another country is about much more than starting a new job: “When you move to another country, it’s not just about work. Your whole life moves to a new country.”

Spring House’s Finnish for the Workplace training brings Finnish language learning into the working day
Kuva Space had already supported its employees in learning Finnish, for example through online courses. But experience showed the value of learning together. The company wanted to offer employees regular, instructor-led training and create an opportunity to practise Finnish alongside familiar colleagues. Some participants also wanted support in preparing for the YKI Finnish language proficiency test.
When Kuva Space compared training providers, Spring House stood out with its practical approach, smooth collaboration and well-organised training.
Finnish for the Workplace training took place once a week during working hours. Colleagues from different cultures could sit down and learn Finnish together. Language learning became a shared experience.
Sarah says the overall experience was positive, and participants gave plenty of good feedback. Their commitment showed in practice too: some employees attended practically every lesson: “Overall, it was a positive experience, and I heard a lot of good feedback from the participants in the class.”
Finnish language training helps international talent stay and strengthens employer branding
For Kuva Space, Finnish for the Workplace is about much more than learning words and grammar. Finnish language skills can help international employees navigate everyday situations, participate more fully in the society around them and build a stronger sense of belonging in Finland. This can make it easier to build not only a career, but also a meaningful life in a new home country.
That is why Sarah sees language training as one concrete way to help international employees build a future in Finland. It also strengthens the employee experience and employer brand. The message is simple but important: an employer cares about the person, not just the work they do.
According to Sarah, learning together also helps build a closer workplace community: “There is a lot of value in learning together and having that kind of opportunity to have people you're already working with and seeing on a daily basis in the office learning at the same time.”
For an international employer, language training can therefore be much more than language training. It is an investment in making sure that talent does not just come to Finland to work but can build a life here too.
