Avoin työelämä -project (The Open Working Life) – A Reciprocal Career Path for Refugees and Work Communities project was carried out in the regions of Northern Ostrobothnia, Pirkanmaa, and Central Finland. The main target group consisted of quota refugees and other individuals with a refugee background.

The project aimed to identify existing skills, support the employability of refugees in a challenging labour market position, and facilitate their transition toward working life. At the same time, the project strengthened the ability of workplaces to recruit and integrate employees with refugee backgrounds. The project was implemented in collaboration with regional integration actors and employers.

As a result, the project developed a model and practical tools to promote both the employment of refugees and the inclusiveness of workplaces.

The project was implemented from 1 November 2021 to 31 December 2022, supported by the Asylum, Migration and Integration Fund (AMIF) under the 2014–2020 programme period.

Project Materials

In the project’s final publication, you can explore the reciprocal career path model for refugees and employers, along with key insights and best practices identified during the project. The developed model is based on needs-based refugee and company profiles. The publication also provides practical recommendations on how to use these profiles to improve career guidance and enhance workplace inclusiveness.
